NC DMV - Inspector's Meeting with FA Management on May 18, 2020
Armed with the knowledge that FA had already violated the NC State Safety Inspection regulations by failing to perform an inspection when requested by a motorist, NC DMV Investigator Love visited FA on May 18, 2020 and met with the FA General Manager, Sean Mehaffey and the FA Service Director, Matthew Mann. Following that meeting, DMV Inspector Love spoke with My Owner on the phone and related the following.
- Inspector Love said he reviewed My Owner's complaint and the relevant service documents at FA.
- FA told Inspector Love that he would be unable to inspect the parts removed from the Solara because they were no longer available.
(( Approximately one month later in a written response to the NC AG's Office, FA's Matthew Mann said the parts WERE available for inspection. )) - FA told Inspector Love that the $2,948.50 line item to "Mount and Balance Four Tires" was related to a Multipoint Inspection Report.
(( As of that time, My Owner still had not received a copy of that Multipoint Inspection Report. My Owner did not discuss the purchase of tires with FA's Randall Ruffin as she was planning on purchasing new tires elsewhere in the near future. In fact she specifically asked Mr. Ruffin to remove the $2,948.50 item to Mount and Balance Four Tires (as well as other items she had not requested) from the $6,365.84 work order. She was told that those items could not be removed from the work order. )) - FA and Inspector Love discussed My Owner's concern over not receiving the documents she was entitled to.
(( Below on this page is the list of documents My Owner possessed prior to this meeting. Also below is the set of documents that was sent to My Owner on June 11, 2020 by FA's Matthew Mann, apparently in response to DMV Inspector Love's raising this issue with FA. That set of documents contained a $290.01 work order signed by My Owner, but DID NOT CONTAIN a work order authorizing work billed on the $2,927.07 invoice presented to My Owner. That set of documents also DID NOT CONTAIN a failed NC State Safety Inspection Report. )) - FA told Inspector Love that the only reason they had not addressed My Owner's concerns with her directly was that they "found out" she "had a lawyer".
(( This misrepresentation was taken to another whole level by convincing DMV Inspector Love to act as their agent by asking him to forward a money settlement offer of $300.00 to My Owner. Inspector Love did agree to do this and did forward FA's offer of $300 to My Owner. My Owner has not retained a lawyer. If My Owner had done so, that attorney (or that attorney's office) would have communicated his or her engagement to FA in writing. FA offered no evidence to Inspector Love to support their assertion that My Owner "had a lawyer". ))

(( To document DMV Inspector Love's account of the meeting, we sent the following email again requesting documents that had been withheld. ))

(( To clarify to both FA and to the DMV what documents we had and which ones we did NOT have, we attached the following. ))
Documents Received From Matthew Mann on June 11, 2020
(( Were we supposed to infer something from the fact that the documents Matthew Mann sent to us were Upside Down? ))
